Increase average order value with useful cross-selling

Coffee with a compatible filter. Shoes with care products suited to the material. A useful addition completes the product's use.

Test one bundle and review acceptance, contribution per order and complaints. Make the individual product easy to buy. A larger order is not a gain when the extra item complicates fulfilment or adds no value. What does the customer actually need with the product?

Start with the customer's core need

Cross-selling proposes a complementary product that helps someone use their chosen item. Do not add a higher-priced product simply to lift the average. Coffee and suitable brewing equipment can be a sensible pairing, but explain compatibility and price rather than assuming both are needed.

A practical step to try

Test one suggestion at an appropriate stage. Review acceptance rate, contribution margin and complaints. If it obstructs checkout or increases returns, higher average order value is not sufficient evidence of success. Make optional additions easy to decline.

Average order value and Media Buying

More value per order can create room for acquisition cost if contribution genuinely increases. Monitor conversion rate alongside order value: one rising while the other falls may change the overall result. Separate the effect of a bundle from a change in audience.
