Who owns marketing decisions? Clarify roles before campaigns

SNS Team · Reviewed 2026-11-05

Sales promised a delivery date; operations says it cannot meet it. The customer should not bear the cost of unclear internal decisions.

Choose a recurring disagreement: a discount, custom order or delivery promise. Agree who decides and what they need to know before approving. Allow discussion, then name one owner responsible for the decision and its outcome. Start with a decision that regularly gets delayed.

Define the decision before assigning names

Reviewing creative, approving an offer, allocating budget and stopping a campaign are separate decisions. Record who proposes, approves and executes, and when escalation is needed. Multiple perspectives help, but approval responsibility must be clear.

A practical step to try

Keep a simple record of the decision, reason, owner, date and expected outcome. Set a realistic response deadline before launch and a fallback if the approver is absent. This lets the team move without turning every revision into an open-ended approval chain.

How does this improve campaign management?

When the Media Buyer knows who approves prices, stock and creative, tests can move faster and outcomes become easier to interpret. Do not hold a team responsible for delays outside its authority. Document changes made during a test.
