How to fix a service that consumes the team without profit
SNS Team · Reviewed 2026-11-05
A service can sell while each order disrupts the rest of the operation.
Review actual time, rework and requests outside the agreement. You may need to change scope, delivery or price. If the promise cannot currently be delivered, pause new orders while fixing it and honour existing commitments. Selling more of the same service is not always the solution. Calculate delivery cost as it actually occurs
Record team time, revisions, tools and direct project expenses. An open-ended agreement may let extras consume time needed by other services. Determine whether the issue is price, scope, rework or a missing skill.
A practical step to try
Define deliverables, revision limits and acceptance criteria. Distinguish a new request from correction of your own error. Test simpler scope or better delivery before removing the service entirely. Agree any change with existing customers.
How does this affect acquisition cost?
If the service leaves insufficient contribution, acquiring more customers through advertising can increase pressure. Consider acquisition cost alongside fulfilment cost and the expected relationship duration, using real records. Contract revenue alone should not determine the maximum acceptable lead cost.
